Birmingham-based singer-songwriter Chris Tye launches his second album, Stronger In Numbers…As the world fragments before our very eyes Chris Tye sings ‘Togetherness is all we have, we should only connect’…and in doing so he sets the tone for a triumphant and bold collection of songs.
An album in the truest sense, an album with hope at its heart. Stronger in Numbers feels like a record written by a songwriter at the top of his game, a master class in composition and production, bigger, deeper and richer than previous releases – a thing of beauty, talking directly to you with its unmistakable sense of narrative.
The album was recorded in Kings Heath, Birmingham over two months with producer and long time collaborator Michael Clarke – clearly a pairing with a good understanding and mutual respect. Tye states – ‘I love working with Michael, I’ve known him for a long time and we’ve got to the stage where we seem to know what the other one is thinking without saying anything’ ‘We’re both big fans of the classic singer songwriter style, artists like John Martyn, Dylan, Neil Young…but we also love the big sound created by bands like The Shins, The Cure, The National, The Verve.’ ‘We’re trying to fuse those two genres on this record without diluting either one too much’
STRONGER IN NUMBERS IS AN ALBUM THAT MUST BE HEARD
Performing what he describes as “urban folk music”, Chris cites Paul Simon, Grizzly Bear, The Beatles, Nick Drake and John Martyn as significant influences. Chris has previously supported such acts as Ben Howard, Teddy Thompson, Fionn Regan, Sharon Van Etten, Rae Morris and Amy Winehouse.
For The Ort show, Chris will be performing with a simple backing band comprising of guitar, piano and percussion. Support from fellow BBC Introducing act Hannah Brown.
Stronger In Numbers is officially released on Friday 21st April as a digital download (via all major platforms). CD copies available from live shows and www.christye.co.uk
